HEALTH
Maternity Home: Improving facility in maternity home through minor repairs and painting of building, Beds, pantry facility, refrigerator and cooler, toilets renovation, making the operation theatre of Maternity home functional and ensuring better utilisation of OT through upgrading OT table, lights, anaesthetic trolley & instruments To be launched shortly
* Yoga and meditation classes were organised though our own yoga teacher in the evenings 13th to 20th January 2006
ESIS Hospital: Upgrading facilities in ESIS hospital including water proofing treatment at terrace, Repairing of building to upgrade the finishes, Plastering work of building, Replacing floor tiles inside building, Toilets renovation including replacing all sanitary fixtures, Changing electrical wiring and providing electrical fixtures like fans, lighting fixtures etc., Painting work from inside and outside, Upgrading internal furniture like chairs, tables, examination tables, storage racks etc for various doctors, inquiry counter, medicine issue counter etc, Replacing all unserviceable doors and windows, Repairing of collapsible gates., Wherever required, providing additional doors at all the entrances, Garden and landscaping and up gradation of pathological and other medical equipment like ECG Machine, Portable Suction Machine, Semi auto Analyzer, Binocular Microscope, Glucometer, BP instrument with Stethoscope, etc. 7th January 2006
Municipal Schools: Renovation of 5 schools by through various works like renovation of Drinking water facility, Dining facility and kitchen facility (incl. kitchen utensils) and Utensils like plate, bowl, spoons to each student of municipal school for mid day meal scheme, Repair/ provision of new fans/lights/blackboards, Recreation facility and Painting of bldg 6th January 2006
* Provision of reading material: Books on motivation were distributed among Municipal school students (3220 sets of 6 books), teachers (147 sets of 3 books) and students of TPAL school Urja Vidyalaya (227 sets of 6 books) to encourage reading habits and self motivation. 6th January 2006
Parks/ Gardens: Developing & maintaining parks and gardens through various works like creation of seating arrangements, walking tracks, recreation facility, and gardening. This was be done for 2 Municipal Plots 5th January 2006
Slums: Under "Jeevan No Ujaas" Programme, slums in Sabarmati area were 100% electrified 4th January 2006
* Tours for members of Senior Citizens Club were organised to Torrent Power AEC Generation Plant at Sabarmati, Torrent Power AEC Fly Ash Treatment Pond (green belt area with pond that attracts migratory birds), and Torrent Pharma plant 3rd & 17th December 2005, 7th January 2006
PUBLIC AMENITIES
Roads & streets in Sabarmati area: A Swachchta Abhiyaan was undertaken to clean, improve, and beautify roads and streets of Sabarmati, where Group employees participated in Road divider - repair & painting, Tree guards/plantation (Installation & painting), revamping and painting of street lights, Fabrication & installation of signages, Fabrication & installation of display boards, Bus stand (fabrication & installation ), Road cleaning (including material arrangement, waste disposal & water sprinkling), Civil jobs like water stand, paving of bus stand and dustbin platforms, pani parab, Distribution of handbills to local residents on cleanliness awareness. 10th December 2005
* Teachers training programme: Training programmes for municipal school teachers was organised, with an objective was to enhance the Primary School Teachers teaching skills, for which the services of Pratham Gujarat Education Initiatives were engaged. During the 6 day programme, Skills in Reading & Writing Techniques, and Arithmetic Techniques were developed for 129 Teachers from 15 schools 28th November to 3rd December 2005
Municipal Schools: Various inter-school competitions were conducted in -  
* Drawing: 400 students of municipal schools and1 Urja Vidyalaya (for Std Jr KG to 4th Std) participated in 2 groups. The panel of judges comprised of experts in the field, along with employees who did the preliminary short listing and 3 winners were finally selected from each group 1st October 2005
* Elocution: 300 students (for Stds. 5,6 and 7) of 10 municipal schools and Urja Vidyalaya participated wherein judges were employees of the Group along with experts in education field. 3 winners were finally selected in each standard in various languages like Hindi, Gujarati, Marathi and Tamil on relevant topics. 5th September 2005
Childrens Health Checkup Camp: A health checkup camp was organised for 641 students of Urja Vidyalaya (school of Torrent Power AEC Ltd.) and 38 children residing in township were examined by the Group doctors. This entailed eye check-up, cardiac check-up, and hearing check-up and an analysis was for done for health/medical issues relating to Hygiene, Ophthalmology, Dental, Dermatology, ENT, De-worming, Cardiac, Anaemia, Audiometry and other findings. Recommendations have also been given for corrective actions 16th to 24th August, 2005
Municipal Water Pumping Station Cleaning and tree plantation: Cleaning of public water storage tanks with a Total Tank Capacity of 12400000 ltrs including 2 underground tanks each of 6000000 ltrs and 3 underground tanks each of 5400000 ltrs. After cleaning/removal of mud/dirt of the underground tanks, fumigation was carried out. This was followed by tree plantation in the area. Close to 1000 employees across the Group participated in the 2 activities 27th July to 12th August,2005
EDUCATION
Health & Education Awareness Program: 140 employees were involved in an Awareness about education, health, and hygiene though door to door canvassing, film shows, putting up of posters and distribution of handbills, health booklets in 3 major slums 26th to 28th December 2005
Torrent Power AEC Ltd. School(Urja Vidyalaya): Providing teaching aids in Urja Vidyalaya like creation of computer laboratory, and PA system(Urja Vidyalaya) in assembly hall & classrooms 26th December 2005
* Sports: 600 students of municipal schools and Urja Vidyalaya (for Stds. 5,6,7) participated in various events like Athletics, relay race, long jump, ball throw, three legged race and winners were declared in each category 24th December 2005
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
Senior Citizens Club: To enhance facilities for over 150 members of Senior Citizen's club including:-
* Providing books to improve the quality of library. This was done through a book donation campaign organised across the Group which saw contribution of around 750 books, journals, VCDs and audio cassettes 17th December 2005
Safety Exhibition: Organised exhibitions on electrical safety and general safety, presenting the knowledge and requirements on effective and safe usage of electricity at 3 schools in Sabarmati for local residents and school students. This included putting up exhibition stalls, setting up film shows and distributing handbills 17th December 2005
